SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NEPALESE STUDENTS

 

From this session, newly formed Medical Education Commission (MEC) is going to conduct Common Entrance Exam (CEE). Based on merit list of this entrance exam, MEC will provide scholarships in medical, dental, nursing and para-medical programs in different colleges under TU, KU, BPKIHS, PAHS, Pokhara University, Purbanchal University and NAMS. The same merit list will be applicable for scholarships provided by Nepal Government in Pakistan, China, Russia and Egypt. Till last session, MOE was the one providing these scholarships.

In the previous year, there were about 358 MBBS Scholarships (55% General and 45% Reserved quota) and about 105 seats for BDS (55% General and 45% Reserved quota) in different Medical and Dental colleges in Nepal and abroad.

Out of total scholarship seats, 55% of the scholarship seats are for candidates from General (Open) Category and 45% of the scholarship seats are reserved for the candidates from Underprivileged (Bipanna) Community. The required criteria for a candidate to claim seats under the reserved quota is that he/she should have passed grade 6 to 10 from Community / Government School.

Distribution of seats under Reserved Category 

Considering 45% of reserved seats as 100%, the seats are divided as follows:

1. Women: 33% (out of 33% seats, 3% seats are reserved for Dalit Women & 2% seats for Muslim Women)

2. Dalit: 9%

3. Adivasi / Janajati: 15%

4. Khas Arya: 17%

5. Madhesi: 12% (out of 12% seats, 3% seats are reserved for Madhesi Dalit)

6. Tharu: 4%

7. Muslim: 2%

8. Marginalized group: 4%

9. Handicapped (Apanga): 2%

10. Family member of Martyrs (Sahid), Family member of Disappread (Bepatta), Family member of Injured (Ghaite) worrior, Dwanda Pidit: 2%

 

1. Tribhuvan University (TU) Scholarships

A total of 123 seats (General-68 & Reserved-55) for MBBS and 40 seats (General-22 & Reserved-18) for BDS were available in different medical and dental colleges under TU in academic year 2076/77. 

Out of 123 scholarship seats for MBBS, 59 seats were available in Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MMC). Similarly, 19 BDS scholarship seats were available in MMC.

Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MMC) Scholarships: Being a constituent campus of IOM, Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MMC) has always been the prime choice for the aspiring medical students. It has always engrossed the attention of the toppers because of its educational quality.

2. Kathmandu University (KU) Scholarships

A total of 109 seats (General-60 & Reserved-49) for MBBS and 26 seats (General-14 & Reserved-12) for BDS were available in different medical and dental colleges under KU in academic year 2076/77. 

 

3. BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS)

In the year 2076 BPKIHS provided about 75 Heavily Subsidized MBBS scholarships. For BDS program, the number of Heavily Subsidized Scholarship seats was about 38.

4. Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS)

In the year 2076 PAHS provided about 49 MBBS Full Scholarships  out of which 27 seats were for open category and rest 22 were reserved. Selection was done based on the merit list of PAHS Entrance Examination.

5. Medical Education Commission (MEC) Scholarships in Abroad

Nepalese students will be awarded scholarships in Pakistan, China, Russia and Egypt on the basis of merit list of Common Entrance Exam (CEE) conducted by Medical Education Commission.  

A. Scholarships in Pakistan

Every year Pakistan Government provides about 10 Scholarships for MBBS and 1 BDS Scholarship for meritorious Nepalese students.

Eligibility Criteria for the scholarship:

Students must have secured 65% in aggregate in their +2 examination in order to apply for the Scholarship provided by Pakistan Embassy in Nepal. OR

He/She should have obtained a minimum score of 550 in each of the  three subjects out of which two subjects have to be Biology and chemistry in SAT II exam. OR

He/She should have a minimum aggregate score of 500 in MCAT exam. OR

He/She have to provide a valid TOEFL or IELTS score of 550 or 5.5 respectively.

B. Scholarships in Russia

Every year Russian Federation provides about 5 Scholarship Seats for MBBS and BDS program for meritorious Nepalese students. Student Selection will most probably be done basis of Common Entrance Examination (CEE) merit list. Students have to secure 80% aggregate in their +2 examination in order to apply for the Scholarship provided by Russian Federation in Nepal. Since the teaching medium in Russia is Russian Language, Students have to take Language classes too.

C. Scholarships in Egypt

Every year Egypt Government provides about 3 Scholarship Seats for those students who want to study Medicine in Egypt. Student Selection will most probably be done on the merit basis of Common Entrance Examination. Students have to secure 70% aggregate in their +2 examination in order to apply for the Scholarship provided by Egypt Government.

D. Scholarships in China

Every year Chinese Government provides various numbers of Scholarship seats for MBBS and BDS program. Student Selection will most probably be done on the merit basis of Common Entrance Examination. Students have to take language classes as the medium of teaching in China is Chinese. The Application date to apply for Scholarship is October / November.

 

6. Embassies which Provide Scholarships by themselves (Not through MEC)

Every year different countries provide Scholarship seats through their Embassies for Nepalese Students to pursue their Medical and Dental career in Abroad. There are various embassies in Nepal that has been providing such scholarships. 

Bangladesh Embassy

Every year Bangladesh Government provides about 19 MBBS and 3 BDS Scholarship seats for meritorious Nepalese students. Selection is done on the basis of marks obtained in SLC and +2.

Japanese Embassy

Every year Japan Government provides about 1-2 MBBS Scholarship for Nepalese students. Students have to participate in Examination which is taken by Japanese Embassy and selection is done on the basis of marks in the Entrance Examination. Students must have to secure 75% aggregate in SLC and +2 in order to apply for the Scholarship. Date of Entrance Exam: In the month of July. Indian Embassy

Every year Embassy of India in Nepal provides few MBBS Scholarships to Nepalese students. Students have to participate in NEET Exam Conducted in India. Student selection is done on the basis of marks obtained in NEET Exam. 

 

7. MP Jagadamba Guthi

Every year MP Jagadamba Guthi has been providing MBBS scholarships 1 for  male and 1 for female in a reputed medical college in Calcutta, India. Selection is done on the basis of the examination held by them. The examination pattern would be PCB- subjective/objective and a Nepali essay and will be held in Baisakh. Student must qualify in NEET Exam conducted in India in order to be eligible for JMPG Entrance Exam.
